My Solemn Promise

Names I will never give characters in my books: Araminta, Elphelia, Lispenard, Howso, Freelove, Tatiana, Alpha, Wormley, Cleghorn, Zerilda, Bossieux, Parthenia, Dorfish, Seldra, Rathborn, Tazewell, Goldendine, or Caroline Valentine.

Under the right circumstances (certifiable madness) I MIGHT give my characters these names: Agrivalla, Sydolia, Launbural, Luberta, Egberta, Delaware, Oneidgia, Lillis Willis, Lena Farina, Lizzie Blizzard, Emma Lemmon, or Lydia Middleton.

Just thought you'd like to know where I stand on the naming of characters.

I like Rathborn, though. He's a distinguished but mysterious gentleman who has lived at the manor ever since....

Oh, c'mon, not Freelove?? Just kidding. I really like the name Delaware! (not for my own offspring, but for a book, sure!)

Good to know. Those names are crazy! I probably should of recognized some of them! I am hoping to get us down to visit in July. When is the best day?

Since you aren't one for writing science fiction or fantasy, I suppose your promise won't be too hard to keep.

I'm guessing you've found these names in published books, but I have to wonder if some of them are from family history?

I found these names while indexing on Family Search--I'm working my way to the 22,000 mark. A great name of one of my own ancestors is Adonijah Peacock.

Hmm. I choose character names based on the ease of typing them. I keep them brief.
